Thanks for the great pics. Some of my roots are there, albeit transplanted to America a long time ago. It's nice to see what gentlemen there are wearing these days.

I think the white hose are not worn with day wear because they dont really suit the look of the brown, green and blue tweeds of day wear, being too bright. They are more suited to wedding or formal events.

I do like the variety of subtle ways the day wear is worn although yellow hose are not something I like but as is always said here, wear what you feel is right.

Not to hijack the thread, but I believe this was the mid 60's... Maybe all his other socks were in the wash though and he had to make do with his football (soccer) kit...

While I cant really comment as to year or the fact that they're white, and while I'm sure many will decry the use of the White Heather Club, I'd be sure a pair or two of these are white...

Someone posted that they were amazed at the variety of dress.

The opposite impressed itself upon me, especially in the photo below. So many men are wearing jackets of nearly the same shade that the overall appearance is somewhat of men in uniform. What I would have expected, instead, would have been a kaleidoscopic clamour of various tweeds and hues.

BTW my favourite "look" is the gent wearing the vintage long hair sporran.

I also really like the elaborate vintage 18th century style sporran one fellow is wearing.

So many thanks for posting those! What I especially like is seeing the same gents different years, often with the same kilt and sporran but different hose and jackets.

Many men just have the one kilt and jacket and it is more a Sunday best type outfit which can be worn to a variety of occasions and not something too flashy, the Scots are pretty conservative dont forget.

I was in our local Highland wear shop the other day (McAllans) and chatting to the sales person, she said more people are buying a second kilt for casual evenings out and football matches. Their sales have gone up in their 13oz 8yd wool kilts over the last couple of years and is mainly in the age group 20 to 50. She also finds with their customers, they have 2 or more jackets, one black Argyle or PC and one/two tweed. She said they do not sell many white hose these days, black or navy is the most popular and lovat blue and bottle green next.

I'm sure thats true and good to hear.

But that is a relatively recent thing and I'm sure its because the cost of these items has come down and people's willingness to spend money has gone up.
