Re: Please tell me if I'm being told lies by my bad bf......
A kilt is a skirt no matter who wears it. Nomenclature is not intended to limit, but merely describe accurately for the sake of comprehension. Not all skirts are kilts. To be a form of kilt it should have pleats in back and aprons in front.
A military style kilt, whether worn by men or women, say in a pipe band or as a highland dancer or athlete, may for simplicity be called simply a kilt.
A mini kilt is shorter and intended for, please only, women.
Kilts over the knee are referred to as kilted skirts or kilt skirts.
Kilts to the ground are called hostess skirts and are considered formal.
Dancers and athletes of either sex are required to wear undies. Soldiers are required not to. What you as a civilian do is entirely your own business and not even your boyfriend's if you don't want him to know.

The other questions have been pretty much answered.
My suggestion, in lieu of a sporran, is to bring a sporran-like purse. I think my wife would be driven mad if she were "limited" to only bringing what she could stuff into a sporran... even one of the really big Rob Roy styled ones.

Re: Please tell me if I'm being told lies by my bad bf......
as soon as my first knockabout kilts arrived, my wife liked them so much that she wanted some for herself. i bought her a couple of incredibly low priced wool "kilted skirts" off of ebay, but she still was not satisfied--though she took them anyway. she now has two "male" knockabout kilts of her own (thank God for my bank account she was fine with acrylic). since she wears them at the "jeans waist," they fall below her knees with the 24 inch drop--a bit shorter than the shins length kilted skirts (i just tried to find them to measure, but they are lost in the sargaso sea of her room). considering the standard length of an off the shelf kilt and depending on your level of comfort, you might prefer a kilt mini. all three look great on women.
as for the undies, since you will be the one wearing the thing, you get to decide.
as for the sporran, some of the pics posted by xmarks lasses showed them wearing the sporran on their hip (wasn't that where it was originally for males?) or using a sporran with the belt as a purse on the shoulder. i do not think the sporran looks so good on a female in front.

But if you want to keep him on the hook, wondering all night, you could always drop some devious non-clues.

I agree a kilt is a kilt. A mans kilt has the over bib going to the right. A woman's kilt (kilted skirt) has the over bib going to the left.
As for wearing the kilt in the traditional manner I would say if it's a Billie kilt then no I wouldn't wear it the traditional way. If it is a standard length kilt you can if you choose but I would wear a half slip under the kilt as the wool is quite itchy. :$
The heavier the wool the itchier it is.

Re: Please tell me if I'm being told lies by my bad bf......
I have to go with my Grandfather on this one. I think kilts are strictly a male garment. A kilted skirt designed for women is still cool. I think that blurring this line makes it slightly harder on men in kilts. Sure kilts are in a basic sense a kind of "skirt" anyways, but the "if you wear it like a man" saying can only go so far. If you see more women in traditional style kilts it would definitely be harder to dodge "nice skirt" comments and odd looks. Sure they really don't bother you that much, but ignorance at a certain level bothers everyone. In my opinion leave kilts to men and other skirt-like fashions to women.
Why would you be worried about someone going regimental on your furniture? Don't these people know how to sweep their pleats? Whatever bare skin that's normally under my kilt never comes into contact with the outside world. Sure, if it's really windy, take proper precautions.

That was my thought as well.

Not everyone knows how to properly sweep their pleats. Sadly, far too many don't even realize the need to do so.
As to the OP. Call it whatever you want, kilt or skirt, but I would advise you do whatever you think is necessary to protect your modesty while wearing it.
