Re: My girl!
My thoughts are with you at this very stressful time. My mother was taken with the big C and throughout her illness there was a poem that to me gave me a little comfort. I will repeat it here -
Troubles lie about our path
and heavy is the load.
But somewhere in the future
I see a broad bright road.
You and I together walking,
Happy, free at last.
Leaving far behind us,
all the struggles of the past.
If the burden seems to great
or the hills too high to climb.
I conjure in my weary heart
a vision of the time.
When the task is accomplished
Having fought, and won the day.
then I would take you by the hand
and walk the sunlit way.
God be with you both.

Re: My girl!
When my wife was diagnosed with cancer I went through then what you're going through now. Three things she should be doing right now: get completely off of refined sugar. Cancer can only grow in an acid environment, and it really likes sugar. Second, she needs to be eating flax seed with every meal. Several studies have shown flax seed fights breast cancer. Last of all, she needs to be in complete control of her treatment. Too many doctors push their patients into unneeded and detrimental procedures simply to increase the bottom line. It's a sad fact that our medical system would rather treat cancer than cure it. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Scotland is only 1/5 the size of Montana, but Scotland has over 3,000 castles and Montana has none.

Re: My girl!
As a cancer survivor . . .four different times . . . I wish I could say, "I know what you're going through". I can't. Nobody can. It would be like saying, "because I have been married, I know what your marriage is like". It just ain't so. I can say, however, that you are not alone. In my own personal experience, I found that cancer, because of the fear it engenders, is an isolating thing. While the news of the illness may be general, fear strikes at the individual heart . . in crowds, in the night, even at stoplights! Its trap is that none of us wish to acknowledge its presence, or its effect. So, we harbor it in silence, which is the only place where fear can grow. Engage in the world of others; let them know what you fear and feel; and let them help.
Arm yourself with a positive outllook, sound information, and by getting to know your daughter's caregivers. . . . especially the nurses. They are the ones who can really give you a leg up on how to best support your daughter, and who can be the best resources for finding good information.
While this time calls for great courage, there is also good reason for hope. There is reason for optimism. There is (I know this sounds strange) even reason for joy. You may have to trust me on that last one, just now, but I am trusting that all these things will be yours.
Best wishes and my prayers for your daughter's soon and full recovery.

Re: My girl!
Thoughts and prayers headed your way.
I'm no expert by any stretch, but it seems to me that a few people on here have had some experience and have given you a bit of good advice to pass along to your daughter. Let us hope and pray that this is quickly dealt with, never to recurr.
I wish I believed in reincarnation. Where's Charles Martel when you need him?

Re: My girl!
Dear Ken, I am sure I speak for everyone on the forum when I say our hearts go out to you and Heather.
This is a trying time in your life. But it is not the end by any means.
Cancer treatment nowadays involves a range of treatments and (in most cases) informed choice between them.
While I have known several folk who have lost their lives to cancer, I have also known quite a few who have survived.
A colleague of mine, then in her early 20s, chose not to undergo surgery for her breast cancer, and after therapy became a mother of three children, all of whom were breastfed.
The decision not to go under the knife can be a difficult one, though, as it has not always had a good outcome.
I hope Heather will be able to accept herself as a woman (and be so accepted by the man in her life) should she undergo a mastectomy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her and with the family.
Best regards,
Mike

Re: My girl!
Tomorrow Heather has her pre-op appointment. Monday is the scheduled surgery. Both my wife and I are very anxious about the outcome.
Thank you for all the encouragement and well-wishes. Especially ForestModern - your post gave us a lift when we really needed it.
Ladies and gentlemen - thank you.

Ken
I can tell by the looks on your face and that of Heather (in post 15 of this thread) that you already have the attitude of those that can beat this disease. Hold that indefatigable mindset close and lean on it when you need to--it will serve you well through out the impending process. All our thoughts and prayers will be with you.

As a father of daughters, I offer you both my sympathies and very best wishes. I have no advice, but will say I'm a BIG believer in medical science.
