Having been through my own bout with cancer, I can say that I found it helped to maintain a positive state of mind. I at first was quite down, but then I decided that I would not let the disease win. There quite good results now days. Do not surrender. Many prayers go out to you and yours.

Scary news for sure. But another cancer survivor here too. Know many ladies who've survived breast cancer too. Science has marched on. Will send up smoke for her.

Guess I should add the suggestion to talk to the docs and follow the scientific suggestions.

The ladies I've know who succomed to breast cancer were the ones off with the "unusual" and unproven forms of treatment.

    Oh wow.

Not a daughter, but one of my martial-art students was diagnosed with breast cancer a bit over a year ago. She and her husband were both near-destitute already due to their business falling on hard times in the current economy. But we all -- and many others outside the dojo -- pulled together and helped, and she has had good doctors, and after her combination of chemo, surgery, and more chemo she's doing well and it looks like everything will be fine. May it be so with your daughter as well.

KenB: I am sorry to hear about your daughter. My sister had breast cancer some years ago and, while the struggle was difficult, she eventually beat it. The doctors know so much more now and there are ever more ways to battle it. One key for her is to "never give up, never surrender" - do what the doctors tell her to do and fight, fight, fight!

Tell your daughter that there are folks she doesn't even know who are praying for her, asking God to give her strength, peace of mind, and good health. I will be one of those. May the Good Lord bless Heather, and you.

My wife had adrenal cancer. It was reletively easy to take care of, but that phone call at work was rather scary. You and your little girl will be in our thoughts.

    Re: My girl!

I am very sorry to hear this news. My wife was diagnosed a little over a year ago with breast cancer. After a double mastectomy and several bouts of chemo I am happy to say that she is on the mend. I guess like most men do I put my brain in four wheel drive and drove forward. I ignored the bad in my head and resolved that I may only sleep 2 hrs a day and work 22 hrs of the rest in some capacity or another, and many times I did just that. I mentally prepared myself for the worst so that when others were thinking the same thing I was already over the hill so I could be there for the rest of the family. Tough times may be ahead my friend but since being on this forum (even a short time) I can tell that this is a great network of people who want to share in your experiences, both good and bad to help support you. You can contact me anytime night or day and I would be more than willing to lend an ear or answer the "what's next ?" questions. It also helped to tackle the experience in sections for me. Possible surgery. Recovery. Chemo. Stuff like that but in the end it's really just one day at a time. Good luck.

    Re: My girl!

Having lost a number of friends and family to cancer, my thoughts are with you.

A postive mental attitude really helps and not dwelling on the bad stuff but thinking about the good things that have happened really helped me.

I know that their is always a lot of heartache and grief, but try to support each other and live life to the full and make more happy memories.

May the Triple Gems bless you all and may whatever treatment you daughter goes for be successful.

Ken, you, your daughter and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Survival rates from women's cancers are much better nowadays. My Aunt Jean had cancer of the womb and underwent a hysterectomy at the age of 76 followed by aggressive radiotherapy. She went on to make a full recovery and enjoyed good health for more than a decade thereafter and never had any further cancer.
