I see what you are saying.
But the sadness is just as durable as the art and craft. It permeates, resonates, and eventually echos. The things one makes becomes a reminder of the sadness, and to what end?

Just as surely as the road to Perdition is paved with good intentions, so too is the road to Oblivion cobbled with scraps of wool and metal.

Of course. Where moth and rust doth corrupt, perhaps our words may yet live on.

I like that very much. You too are a poet, and philosopher.
Does this work too:
Whereas moth and rust doth corrupt, perhaps our words may yet live on.

It works perfectly well, I believe, though it changes my original meaning, however slightly.
I was aiming for:
[In that place] where moth and rust doth corrupt, perhaps our words may [continue to survive].

Re: Tyger's New Ryan Ross Bonnet
I guess I'm coming from the angle of personal edification, which, upon reflection, I doubt you indulge. On the other hand, population, specialization, mass production, etc. increases and craft gets relegated to those who can produce it and those who appreciate it. I view it not as sadness, but as living nostalgia.
The end, I hope, is that there is no end to the kind of work you and others like you do. A small-scale loop of production and appreciation. Your work generates its own joy...I would hope that it might interrupt the resonance and echo rather than amplifying it.
