Re: Having trouble with google finding Xmarks?
I just did a Google search for "x marks the scot" and it came right up, occupying the first six slots.
Maybe it's browser dependent for some reason. I am using Firefox 3.6.27.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Re: Having trouble with google finding Xmarks?
By the time I typed 'x mar' Google was showing it as #1 selection.
Maybe I just spend too much time here.

Mael Coluim,
Can you confirm for us that what you are seeing at the top of the list is the actual home page link and not the Facebook page or some other Xmarks related page? It appears that Artificer and I are seeing the same thing from different computers.
Thanks.

I'm using Firefox 10.0.2, not that the browser would have any bearing on a google search. The OP is saying that the forum proper - it's front page, doesn't come up, and he's correct. The search reveals-
1) X Marks Facebook page
2) The forum archive??
3) a social group "The Ladies of XMTS
4) The Honour Roll
5) a listing of "More results for Xmarks" which are all individual threads
6) (a different website) Featured Forum "The Admin Zone".

Interesting. The OP wrote,
"I usually just Google it as "xmarks the scot" and it comes up at the top of the list."
That's has always happened for me, including just now. In fact I can't remember a time when I Googled directly into any web site's home page.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

you missed the important, second bit-
"The first few are xmarks Facebook pages, followed by some links to specific posts on here."
On the two other search engines I checked, the FIRST result was X-Marks forum front page.

Perhaps I don't understand the problem. The above statement is preceded by,
"Now, the home page does not come up at all in the first page."
If that is true, then there is clearly a problem. The XMTS home page url appears in both Firefox and IE on the first page. It is the first entry in IE and the second in Firefox.
If the url to the XMTS home page is anywhere on the first page, particularly near the top of the list, what exactly is the problem?
If the question is, "Why in some browsers is the Facebook entry appears first, and in others the XMTS entry is first?", I have no idea.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
