2. They S-T-R-E-T-C-H !!! I like a nice, tight knot. And knit ties always seemed to give me a huge bulky knot because I couldn't really tighten them up without distorting the knit material way out of shape. And I imagine that part of this problem is the increased friction of a knitted material, as opposed to woven.
That said, I do think it looks sharp when worn with tweed and tucked into a waistcoat. I might have to consider knit ties again. Yours looks grand, Matt!
The pattern I posted has the knit front of tie backed up by woven fabric "lining." This should help with the stretch issue but the friction factor is still there.

Seems like there would be a lot of potential for interesting textures in addition to the colors. I like the square bottom ties, though.

Re: Knit neck ties?
One of the aspects I really like about Highland dress is the combination of patterns and textures. There is a certain richness about the twill weave of a heavy wool tartan, combines with a coarse tweed, a checked tattersal shirt, etc. To me, the knit pattern of the tie complements all that very well.
Yes, I definitely think it is more of a country look. I really enjoy wearing mine with my tweed jackets, but I certainly don't think I'd wear one with my barathea Argyle for evening wear.
I'm asking other's opinions no so much in the sense of "should I wear this or not," but just to introduce the subject and to see if what other's opinions, in general, on knit ties might be.

I like the look with the kilt! I admit, I have not worn one since the Reagan Administration.

Re: Knit neck ties?
I like it. I actually have several and they can be picked up at thrift stores at rather inexpensive prices.

Re: Knit neck ties?
I had to go look in the closet and double check, but the tie I wore in all those brown-corduroy kilt jacket pictures is, as far as I know, a knit tie. I like it because it is thick and has a rough texture. That's why I was saying I like the square bottom ties.

Re: Knit neck ties?
I found a dark green Locharron wool tie at the thrift store, but it has this white rampant lion spot I can't get off...

That's probably because we remember them from the first time around. I think I've seen them in fashion at least twice in my lifetime
Because of that I just consider them old fashioned, along with platform shoes, highwayman collars (making a comeback), flared trousers and kipper ties and wide lapels on jackets (also making a comeback). For myself I will pass them by but I am sure those younger than I am will love them, and why not?

Matt, I love the look with tweed. I, too, am a child of the eighties (has it been that long ago ) and being a clumsy adolescent at the time the knit tie also dredges up some things better forgotten.
You look smashing and the look without the baggage needs to be resurrected.

Re: Knit neck ties?
I like both the straight and pointed bottoms with knit ties, but I tend to think the straight cut makes it look more like a 'true' knit neck tie.
