I think the texture of the knit tie along with things like a tweed jacket and the fabric texture of other day wear items is spot on . I know there is a lot of 80's stigma about the knit tie ( I too wore them in the 80's as well )
If one forgets about the 80's stuff and thinks about the fabric and how it fits in with the other rustic items of Scottish attire , especially daywear , I think it's quite fitting . ( probably go with the pointed tie )
By the way , I have to agree with Ryan Ross , there's something about the headgear in that one picture that seems to compliment the the tie .
