    Rob Roy movie tartan

A teaser pic of a kilt I shipped out today. This one is a six yard knife pleated kilt made from the Rob Roy movie tartan.

This is ostensibly the same tartan as woven for the 1995 film and worn by Liam Neeson.

Maybe when the owner receives his kilt he can post some pics here and we can vote on whether he or Liam wear it best. :-)

Very nice! I'd love to see more pix. Hopefully the owner will post some.

I seem to recall that this tartan only comes in 13 oz. Is that correct, Matt?

Is that a plain weave, or is my phone's screen playing tricks on me?

    Re: Rob Roy movie tartan

    Looks very smart, Matt.

Is this particular tartan registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority? Who weaves it? Is there any type of clan or district affiliation with the design of its sett? Any historical basis? Or is this tartan like the 'Braveheart' tartan, and more of a gimick?

    Just curious...

    Cheers Matt!

Yes, this tartan is recorded with the Scottish Tartans Authority as No. 7026, "Rob Roy (Film)" tartan.

    The notes say:
Designed and woven for the film Rob Roy by Gordon Covell of The Islay Woollen Mill.
Islay Mill also did the Braveheart tartan. You can shop them online.
    http://www.islaywoollenmillshop.com/

I don't see anything in the Rob Roy tartan in their shop currently, though there are many items in the Braveheart tartan (as well as some fantastic looking tweeds).

But yes, it is a plain weave, and feels to be a medium weight wool.
