I've seen those thickly cable-cuffed hose before and wondered if the cable is somehow knitted in that orientation or if the cuffs are knitted separately and attached. I should probably ask the question over at Ravelry but maybe Matt can ask Joanie (do I have her name right? it's early here. . .) if it is possible to knit that cable up-and-down, along with the rest of the hose, or only left-to-right in a separate operation.
