Kilted at Duke Graduation

We had a wonderful weekend with our son Ben, his wife Amanda and our granddaugther Sophie. Ben grdauated PhD from Duke in history. Needless to say, we are very proud of him!

First pic (bit blurry) is the night before, casual. Second pic is Ben in his finery and me kilted semi-formally. Third is me in the gardens at Duke chapel. As far as I could see, I was the only kilted gent and received many nice comments from all kinds of folk. Kilt is Fitzgerald ancient. Great time of celebration.

Hehehe . . . I know what you mean, I've also got a master's in history and don't use it really! But it was good fun reading the stuff. Fortunately, Ben has teaching next year. Incidentally, his field is British and Irish history. His first book was on Ireland in the second world war. His next is on the failure of British securityin Irealnd 1912-21.
