Nice pictures.
Sorry to be ignorant, but who exactly is Donovan? And, what is his connection to the Society of William Wallace?
Also, what is the history surrounding the copies of the Wallace safe conduct letter? Why were copies made? Thanks.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Donovan Murray is President of Celtic Force Enterprises and formed the William Wallace Society of USA. Donovan was a good friend of David R. Ross, the Scottish historian and founder of the William Wallace Society. Donovan is a member here with the screen name of thecelticforce.

Mael: Thank you.
Now, if someone will just tell me about the copies of the Wallace safe conduct letter. Were they made on a Xerox machine in recent years, or by 14th-century monks laboriously employing quills?

Re: Society of William Wallace fundraiser
Since the one letter held by Wallace at his capture by the English was just returned to Scotland, I don't think there are any 14th century monks still around to copy it.

Mael,
Thanks. That answers my question, implicitly anyway.
I thought perhaps, and unbeknownst to me, Edward I had copies made for the King of France, the Pope, et. al., just to show them what a good guy he was.
And, of course, I was also alluding to those old Xerox commercials - "It's a miracle!".

The Society of William Wallace were instumental in bringing the Wallace safe conduct letter back to Scotland, where it will go on display at the Scottish Parliement in August along with the Lubeck Letter.
To mark this event the National Archives in England presented two high resolution copies of the safe conduct letter, one to Scotland's Culture Minister (Fiona Hyslop) and to the Society of William Wallace because of the fragility and age of the document it was copied under certain conditions, exposure to light can degrade this document
The Society of William Wallace is a non-political organistion! it's aims are to promote Wallace's story, Scottish history and to celebrate Scottish identity and culture!

Thanks for the elaboration and pointer to the clip. Very interesting, and informative (to me, anyway).
Out of context the note makes little, or no, sense. It's certainly telegraphic. I kept reading "STOP" at the end of each sentence. King Philip must have been very busy that day.
The "safe conduct" aspect of the letter must somehow be embodied in the word "hold", which must have a different meaning than we presently, and ordinarily, ascribe to it. In fact in a cursory reading of the the note, one might assume that Philip was asking the Pope to "restrain and confine" Wallace during their discussions.
