No, not this photo, Mike. The most recent pic is of the young Sir Charles Maclean of Duart.. The older pic does show my father, though, and not Young Maclean of Duart.

    Sandy,

Is the chap fourth from the left (standing next to the young Duart) Campbell of Airds?

My apologies, Sandy. The various pictures were a bit confusing.

It might be. I can't tell if that's a swan on his crest badge, which would indicate Airds.

I understand. I can't tell for sure, but I was able to zoom in on the photo quite a bit before the resolution began to deteriorate. It appears his crest is 'crossing' the garter of the badge at a diagonal, and it is indeed a considerable mass - not a small crest by any means. Results are definitely inconclusive - I was only curious!

    Cheers,

I wrote to Alastair Campbell of Airds regarding this photo. Here is what he had to say about the photo:

"The figure on the left is my grandfather, Colonel Ian Campbell of Airds CBE, TD; I do not recognise the next two - the one in front a Campbell; next, 4th from left is my uncle, later Captain Alan Campbell OBE RN; next to him 'Chips ' Maclean, later Lord Maclean of Duart KT, the Lord Chamberlain;I think the next two are the Bardwell brothers, Michael, who succeeded as Captain of Dunstaffnage and Sandy the elder, who, as an officer in the Argylls disappeared on his honeymoon in the Bermuda Triangle on board the airliner Star Tiger. I don't recognise the young man on the right but think he is a Campbell from his tartan."

    Wonderful information!

Thank you for the update Sandy, as well as for answering my initial question. I knew the chap in which I was referring to in the photo was either a younger Airds, or perhaps a family relation since he looks very much like Alastair Lorne Campbell of Airds. It's rather interesting to learn the chap is his uncle. I recall seeing Alastair Lorne Campbell of Airds on an episode (regarding the Clan Campbell) of the BBC series, "Highland Clans," hosted by Paul Murton. There was an interesting exchange between Murton and Airds when Murton asked about all of the Campbell atrocities through the centuries. It almost seemed to me, that Murton rather disagreed with Airds, yet didn't voice his opinion or argument - I gauged this by Murton's facial expressions in reaction to what Airds was saying. See the video and forum your own interpretation!

    Slainte,
WOW! Airds pulls no punches, doesn't he? One thing I've always respected about the Campbells; you always knew where they stood -- there was no question of wishy-washiness.

Todd, I agree completely. Throughout Highland history, the Campbells have always stuck to their convictions, thus making their motto feel all the more appropriate: Ne Obliviscaris (Forget Not).

Re: Show us your Vintage Kilt Photos

Ladies and Gentlemen of X Marks,

I need to post a warning to this thread and I need each of you to pay heed.

No photos or text can be posted here if you are not the owner of, or hold the copyright to, the photos and text. To copy and then post photos or text from copyrighted sources you must have the express, written permission of the copyright holder.

I know that it is common to search the web for photos, but to copy and post those photos here without the copyright holders' permission is against the law.

This is also true of copyrighted text that is found on other websites. If you did not write it, it is not yours, and cannot be copied here. To do so is plagiarism.

If you wish to post photos or copy text from other websites you must quote your source and must, state that you either the owner or have the written permission of the copyright holder to use their material.

A formal complaint has been received by the lawful copyright holder of some photos which were posted here. The text which was posted accompanying the photos was also copied from a copyrighted source.

It is unfortunate but I have had to delete the posts in which those photos and text appear.

I regret that as of today, any copies of photos or text which does not include the source, and where applicable the copyright holders permission, will be deleted without notice.
