Re: Pipers What d'ya blow and why?
Rich,
Two more players come to mind that play Athertons, both in the top tier if you will:
Robert Mathieson, and Ronan Maguire (SLOT).

Re: Pipers What d'ya blow and why?
I started with a set of MacLeods
Played so many gigs I saved up for a set of Silver and Immitation Ivory naills now being played by my girlfriend son.
I bought a set of robertsons played in ww1 while i was in the marines
2 years a go I bought a set of old german silver and real ivory robertsons we don't have a clue how old they are they belonged to a guy in my band who unfortunently passed away and his wife wanted them to be played.
most recently a lady in my band bought a set of mccallums and gave me a set of her booths. All have hide bags and selbie cane mixed drone reeds and Naill chanters and shepherd reeds

I'm sorry about the arthritis.it's hard have to give up something that means so much
. I too couldn't grasp the bellows.the studio pipes that I ave are mouth blown but are not much harder to play than a practice chanter

Practice the bellows more, maybe all you need is some stressing attempts to get it down.
besides smallpipes, I want to try electronic/MIDI pipes. They interest me and would be great if I ever decide to do stage work with them.
Plus I want to put it through my bro's Marshall stack at 11.

Re: Pipers What d'ya blow and why?
I currently play a set of Pettigrews. Artificial ivory mounts and "engraved" nickel slides. Nice pipes, decent sound. I'll sell them on once I've finished making the set I'm working on now (for myself!)
Cheers,
Michael

McCallum AB4, with Crozier fiberglass drone reeds, Kron blackwood chanter with Apps G3 reed.
Why? They sound good and these particular pipes are plain-turned (no combing or beading) with antiqued nickel/brass ferrules and slides. I like the simpler, plainer appearance.

I have two sets of Peter Henderson and a set of Walsh shuttle pipes. The set that I currently play is my set of 1920 Ivory mounted Henderson's. The tone that that get form the drones is great. I have received many compliments on their sound.

Neat post!
I play a set of Pettigrew pipes with a Naill poly chanter. They were a surprise gift from my parents years ago. I'm currently using Warnock chanter reeds and Kinnaird Carbon Fiber drones reeds (I'm very happy with these).
