I was wondering about the guilds too, but wow, now I'm certainly shy of them. What are typical guild specialties?

Despite the name including "Renaissance", you'll see costumes from every period. Even from Greek/Roman times, to the Dark Ages, and all the way up to modern sci-fi getups. It's quite comical and fun. Don't go to a Ren faire expecting historical accuracy.

Anyway, GGGP, as I'm sure you know, there was never any such thing as a kilted wench. So it sounds like you're looking for a fantasy costume, which is fine, but I can't say I've seen any female kilted pirates. Typically a "wench" costume is going to include a long dress with multiple layers of petticoats, a corset, etc.

This is my wife's Ren faire outfit, which is a somewhat typical style for a "wench". She likes to wear boots with it - the tall ones that go all the way up to the knee. I gotta say, it's pretty sexy when she girts up one side of her skirts so that when she walks, you can see the boots, her knee, and part of her thigh.



This year she'll add a fancy hat to it (though not a pirate style one).

If you're not a paid performer in a troupe/Guild/Company at an event which actually tries very hard to be realistic, then basically wear what you want.

Tartan or leather corset, boots to mid-thigh, pirate tricorn hat, super-tight leggings, and a cutlass at your waist? It works. You have a Captain Hooker jacket? SO so so so so right.

Notice the fairy wings on one of the lasses in "Clan O'Hottie"....those are period-accurate fairy wings, don'tchaknow?

Some faires are set in earlier times, Sherwood Forest Faire in Texas is set in 1190, but most faires are in the Tudor period, either during the reign of Elizabeth I or her dad Henry VIII. The largest faire in the country, The Texas Ren Fest, is set during Henry's time, cool thing about that is we get a new queen every few years!;

Anne Boylen, Princess Mary and Princess Elizabeth wait their turn...

Digging around I didn't find any wenches in actual kilts, (not counting the mini kilts and billie skirts) but lots of arisaids;


But feel free to add tartan to any garb you want, the fairy Queen does it;


If you're not a paid member of the faire 'cast', have some fun and wear what you want.

Wait, I did find a kilt! but it's on one of my barbarian friends, don't call her a wench!
