In Edinburgh, there's already so many people parading around in full highland gear while bagpiping, or all these 'tartan tat' shops. I'm just hoping that the movies not going to cause an increase in that kind of thing.
Maybe the Scottish Tourism Board can mount a big add campaign telling all potential tourists to stay home and spend their money elsewhere. That would help to head off such a display of that kind of thing.

There's a difference between a country promoting its culture/history and giving up its integrity to appeal to tourists.
Taking a walk down the Royal Mile it's obvious that Edinburgh has stopped promoting any interesting historical buildings in the area, instead filling them with these tartan tat shops blasting out bagpipe remix albums.
I work and study in the city centre so I see a lot of tourists every day. The majority seem to want to walk up to the castle, stopping along the way for a 'see you jimmy' hat. Then get a photo taken with someone dressed like an extra from Braveheart before they head back on a bus.
Of course this isn't the case for everyone, but a large part of the tourists to Edinburgh do this. It annoys me that such a beautiful, interesting city is boiled down to an idea of Scotland that these tourists want to see. There are so many amazing places to visit around the place, both historical and modern, but many of these places are overlooked.

It is a Disney movie, a kid’s movie, a profit for entertainment. To do this you have to draw crowds. Don't count on historical accuracy. Heck, when I chose a historical subject, two books involving the same person, same time frame, from authors of equal education and equal resources, I can still get two perspectives on what may have happened. It is a kid’s movie, just enjoy the show.
P.S. I will be going Kilted.
