Georgia the Brave?
Have we seceded again, and they forgot to tell us about it?
Today I happened to be watching on TV the inauguration of the governor and consitutional officers of the state of Georgia, a ceremony of great if low budget pomp. The US and state flags were piped in by a piper from the Highway Patrol Color Guard (or was it Honor Guard?) wearing a kilt whose tartan I didn't recognize. It was mostly blue with white and perhaps a bit of black. Could have been clergy, I guess. It certainly wasn't the Georgia state/district tartan: http://www.tartans.scotland.net/tart...tartan_id=2238
The amusing thing was that the Governor, first lady and assembled notables reverently placed their right hands over their hearts for the duration of the piping....of "Scotland the Brave," a moment unrivaled in irony since the first President Bush declared, "Don't cry for me, Argentina."

Reminds me a bit of the debacle of the Olympics in Atlanta with the Silver and Chrome Pick-up trucks spelling out "Hey Ya'll" during the opening ceremonies At least if they had played "God Save the Queen", they could argue they thought it was "My Country 'tis of Thee".

McClef may have us nailed.
Only in Georgia, huh, guys? I remember Jeff Foxworthy saying before the Olympics that we should really be able to screw that up. Bubba and Earl in the parking lot with shotguns when they release the doves . . . . Open season!
OH, well. At least they had a piper.

ironic...
It's ironic, in a way...the story is often told of during the Second World War, Georgia National Guard units arriving in the UK were greeted by a British military band playing, what else...Marching Through Georgia! According to most accounts, the Georgians took it in good humour and stride.
Cheers,
Todd
