Didn't think Battle Royale was hip....
Most give me blank look when I mention it...

How funny--my wife and I saw the movie at Alamo Drafthouse. Before the movies, they generally show spoofs or different remakes of the the movie you are there to see--they showed Battle Royale.

I saw the movie at the Alamo drafthouse too, they showed clips of "Lord of the Fies," "The Most Dangerous Game," "Spartacus," "Battle Royale," and "Running Man" before the show, but I think the irony was lost on most of the viewers.

Read the books, saw the movie. Excellent adaptation of the story onto the big screen. Tons of detail in the books that didn't make the movie as per usual with adaptations, but nothing that would make you feel you missed the 'in joke' as mentioned before.
I met up with a friend who is a movie aficionado who had never read the books. He says that it was a fantastic movie on it's own which he enjoyed very much.
Anyway, loved the book, have nothing bad to say about the movie. Cried like a baby when Rue died. I'll probably blubber myself a river at the end of the 3rd movie....

I haven't read or seen The Hunger Games, but it sounds an awful lot like this:

And because I can't help myself, I'll just leave this here:

I saw the movie today without having read the books, though my daughter gave me a quick summary. As I watched it my thoughts were that it had elements of the above films. Entertaining but very predictable.

My wife read the entire series and made me go to the movie. Don't get me wrong...decent enough, but I can't see being carried along for three books worth.

I knew I'd seen the movie already!
