For what it's worth, this booted and low slung look would appear to be de rigueur among the younger element of the Scottish Kilting fraternity. It is if my recent visit to Dumfries is anything to go by anyway. Most of the locals who joined us on the casually dressed kilted Pub crawl were kitted out in similar fashion. Howie's TFCK creations ARE admittedly top of the range in this style, but it is being emulated by those Scots not bound by the traditional conventions. I don't really mind it, it's not really my cup of tea personally but at least the customers are spreading the word of grandness the Kilt and boosting the Scottish economy as well, which is no bad thing.

    I agree.

I'm no expert, but the hose and footwear are what catches my eye as out of place. The kilts, jackets, vests, etc. all look sharp. Then, they have scrunched down hose with unlaced boots. To me, that's like wearing a $1,500 3-piece suit with white socks and Crocs.

This is one of the original TFCK kilt pins in copper. I believe that they are now in a steel/chrome/whitemetal colour now.

With flash and without. This really does not capture the warm copper colour. But it is a devil to keep clean!

    Regards

    Chas

It is kind of like these kilt designers are from a different side of kilting then the X marks the Scott side -as for me I will stick to the kilts we have on our side . all in fun
I'm not sure what you mean by "how these designs are picked to be the standard for the show" it is a fundraiser that 21st Century Kilts is associated with...

"Scotland Unfiltered is a special one-off fundraising event in association with 21st Century Kilts and Scots-based charity Developing World Health. Offering a unique take on Scotland’s diverse culture and heritage at one of New York’s most stylish venues"
In the paragraph, you can see it says, a "speical one-off fundraising event in association with 21st Century Kilts" "unique take on Scotland’s diverse culture and heritage at one of New York’s most stylish venues" right there says to me, this is not your ordinary event, expect something from today not traditional.

    On a side note:

I think Howie has done a great job, and I for one applaud him for his designs and efforts, it's not everyone's cup of tea, however if you wear anything kilt related, other then the traditional wool Kilt, I don't see why it wouldn't be. After all, isn't the "Kilt" we all come to know and love today, a garment that was adapted and changed to fit the needs and styles of the times? I am no expert, but I believe early versions of a kilt did not have leather buckles and straps, and I am sure they weren't made of canvas, or poly viscose. I am most certain they didn't wear leather oxfords on their feet either.

    Keep an open mind

I like the looks, at least their all kilted. I wouldnt wear some of the outfits/styles, but I wouldnt wear what most people wear.
Its obviously a photo shoot, but I dont understand some of the comments here? I was taught that its not proper to look down on someone by how they dress. Maybe its common to dress like that where they live? Maybe they dont know its not exactly proper? Maybe they dont have the money to dress any better? Like my mom use to tell me, "Unless youre prepared to outfit them with clothes you think they should wear, you best keep you comments to yourself.".

    Sanx for sharin the photo.

Nah. It's not a criticism of the people. It's a critique of the style that these smart people have intelligently accepted money to wear for the photo.

no at all, I didn't attack you in any way, as i said "I'm not sure what you mean by "how these designs are picked to be the standard for the show" that means, i didn't know why you thought it was a show about kilts, I was simply pointing out, "it is a fundraiser that 21st Century Kilts is associated with" and that is how they are associated with it..

then in a different paragraph that clearly states "on a side note" which i meant as a whole new subject on 21st Century Kilts it self... so if you took it as an attack on you, please disregard it, it was not an attack on anyone.

it is my thoughts on Howie and his company, and the direction he is taking Kilts.
