Souvenir Title Plots, Fake Titles, Laird, Lord and Lady

This new guidance on those souvenir title plots, issued by the Scottish Land Register in the latest issue of the Journal of the Law Society of Scotland may be of interest to some of our Members.
In short, title to small souvenir plots cannot be registered in the Land Register, and without registration the buyer has no real rights which would be enforceable in law.
The titles Lord and Lady within Scotland apply only to peers.
The Laird is a description more usually applied to the PRINCIPAL landowner in the area.
Ownership of a souvenir plot is not going to assist you in obtaining a Grant of Arms from the Lord Lyon.
We have at least three Lairds of Lochaber and one Lady of Lochaber among our Members.
These souvenir title plots are worth no more than you pay for them and do not give you any legally enforceable rights.
Calling yourself Lord, Lady or Laird while here in Scotland is inappropriate but if you want to use the title elsewhere in the world or on the internet by all means please continue to do so, it is all harmless fun and the vast majority of Scots would have no objections.

Like you say Alex. Harmless fun that often raises much needed support for the estates from whence these deeds come. In effect you're buying a scroll and a fantasy. So long as you understand that before parting with your reddies it matters not.

Awww don't. I think you'd look great in it Scott.

Micheal Jackson's for auction. Guide price $300 to $500... I'll be betting it goes for more than that.

I don't take it seriously, but I still have a plot on a small island in the river Garry.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but which river Garry? The Inverness-shire one, or, the Perthshire one?

No Jock, I don't mind at all.
It's the one in Inverness-shire, between Invergarry and Loch Garry. Our next trip to Scotland will probably involve a visit to Skye, so of course I'll have to stop by 'my' island on the way.
