Well, that is an excellent idea. (If I can bring myself to put two more holes in the bag.)

That's the same fellow who sold me mine. He's a Jacobite reenactor in Dundee. I'm betting with this being the third on ebay in as many weeks, it'll go for a fair bit less than I paid.

If you are going to use the original bag for a fill in until you can get a new one, why put new holes in the original. It is not necessary to have a tassel on the front(or on the sides for that matter). If your bag does not have indelible marker on the back your can turn the bag around. if you have to use the original front just put a badge thru the original holes. The bags can also be turned inside out, when wet, and you can successfully polish the smooth side you find inside.

I don't know if they're all built exactly the same, but mine would look pretty awful when turned inside out, due to the exposed stitching and edges of the leather where the gusset is stitched to the front/back panels.

Hey, do any of you guys know if these cantles are solid brass, or are they some other metal that's simply plated in brass? Mine has some pretty severe black and green corrosion where it was in contact with the leather. I'm wondering how aggressive I can be on cleaning/polishing.

Indeed. I'm hoping not to pay too terribly much, I don't want to have to back out again! I simply have too many other items on order at the moment, so I have a financial margin of what I am willing to spend for this type of sporran.

They are solid brass, although I have one that has been silver plated. I used a bath of diluted vinegar on the worst of mine which was very green and pitted, followed by scrubbing with toothpaste and vinegar and finishing on a buffing wheel with silver polish. That's the one pictured with the original bag and added tassels. Yours looks much less corroded.

My membership pass to this exclusive club will be shipped today! Managed to find one on eBay a wee bit ago and I have been informed it begins it's journey to me today.
