I think it looks fine. I really like that jacket conversion!
But the beret looks good and goes well with the outfit. Although, I am sure someone will chime in to discuss the significance of color and "entitlement". I hope I am wrong about that. To be honest, I don't wear hats with my kilt much because I don't care for the traditional headwear. I like this because it is similar and I might give this a shot--probably I'd go a bit more casual with it (just for me).

I do like the look. I agree that when it gets broken in some, it will be even better looking. Again, well done.

If the kilt was part of the Airborne outfit at least they wouldn't have to worry about forgetting their parachutes, though landing in trees would be problematic !

I like the look. I also have a maroon balmoral because that's what my wife picked out for me. During our recent Irish Festival, some yakov smirnov started in on me about Airborne, clearly not recognizing my EGA badge on it. I think I need to pick a fawn or pony up for one or Ryan's bonnets in silver. I look great in the maroon, but I didn't think of the implications.

I am a retired paratrooper and there are no implications. Your Balmoral is just that. It's not a beret with flash and crest. You have simply chosen a bonnet in a color you/your wife like.

I wear a maroon beret with an EGA on it when the mood strikes me. I have worn it on Fort Meade, where I work, and gotten nothing but compliments from the many Airborne types running around loose there. As someone has said, it's just a hat. Now wearing the flash/crest, (or for that matter an EGA) without earning it? That would be another issue.
