Us Elder Statesmen of the Heavy Athletics threw on Sunday along with the "C" class...the beginners class. My good friend Marty Nichols, scored at least two and maybe 4 personal records on Sunday. His son, Garrett, also scored a personal best, by throwing in the C class and scoring his first 70+ foot toss, to soundly whupp his dad in that event! Finally, Marty and Garrett and Marty's brother, Garry run the Santa Cruz athletics practice group. They have two new lads out to practice with them, and Sunday was their first Highland Games. Both fellows wrestled with Garret on his high school team, and one now plays football at the local community college. Both guys had a GREAT day and I'm sure we've gotten two new athletes out of it.
A couple of beer wenches just happened to saunter by at the right time, so I figure you all can see one of the benefits of combining the Games with a bit 'o Ren Faire...
ON SECOND THOUGHT...*image link removed, much to LitTrog's dismay* "family-friendly site"... though images like this one DO tend to result in large families.
I'm sure you'll probably never actually find me in that picture, but Garrett has the hat on, and his friend...out for his first Games is the other lad. Do you think he'll come back and throw again?

C'mon! You telling me I missed something purdy?! We aesthetes have to stick together, regardless of dismay or datmay--so I'll overlook the slight. This time.
