A book cover:

"Charles Ross and his First Nations wife Isabella raised their
family in Victoria. As a Hudson’s Bay Company trader, he helped
build Fort Victoria in 1843. He became deeply depressed being
so far from Scotland and died in 1844. Isabella became the first woman to
own property in the Vancouver Island colony and lived another 41 years.
