Recently I was out and about wearing my kilt to a friends graduation from college and everyone had to park away from the school so there were buses to ferry us all back and forth( I know I'm rambling) so on the way back a young woman whom wasn't very lady like started asking me the usual " Are you Scottish" and such and the bus arrives and she with her boyfriend are in front of me in line and bus doors open he gets on and she waits and "lets me on first" and I just had the feeling something was going to happen, and was right because she tried to look up my kilt right there in public and everybody saw her do it! Was offended and amused at the same time!!

SOmething similar happened with me. To begin with let me say that my brother-in-law is from Morocco. My nephew who is 7 wasn't sure that he wanted to wear a kilt. He was interested in the kilt, and liked when I wore mine, but didn't want to wear one himself. When I asked him why, and explained that this is what men from Scotland wear, and that it isn't for girls, he said because the kilt was a dress. I asked him what his dad wore (a Moroccan jalaba) and how that was definately a dress. Once the comparison was made to something that he definately understood he decided that the kilt was pretty cool, and that next time we go to the highland games that he thinks he would like one too.

My favourite moment other than the compliments from the young ladies would have to be the time that an older Scottish lady told me that I was wearing the kilt well, looked very smartly dressed and that she liked to see a man in a kilt. Made my day when she gave me that compliment

Yesterday I attended the annual Taos Solar Music Fest and wore my semitrad PV Firefighters Memorial by USA Kilts. Even wearing the PV it was still very hot. As I walked about I received about one positive comment every two or three minutes, and no negatives at all (not that I have ever received a negative).
In any event this nice lady came up to me and began misting my face with her spray bottle, and saying that it evoked a time in the past of coming out of the mists. I thought that it was all quite poetic until she asked me the inevitable question.
I just smiled at her, and then she asked if I would like to be misted "down there"?
How could a gentleman refuse such an innocent request?
She then reached down and faced her spray bottle up, and misted me!
We will see what happens today, when I go back to the fest wearing my Locharron Modern Johnston Casual in honor of the repeal of the Act of Proscription.

I just now thought that I think my favourite reactions I get are from dogs people walk in the park. The dogs just want to greet you and they don't judge in any way. They innocently want to greet you and wag their tails. They don't have a ton of layers of learned nonsense from society in their heads that make them see the world this way or that.... most humans have a ton of mentally ingrained nonsense (things I've been trying to get rid of in myself for decades) that makes them laugh behind your back or judge others by their particular set of made-up assumptions and ingrained "normalcy" ideas.
This is why I tend to like dogs and cats quite a bit. They don't judge... they just innocently act in the moment.

Of course the WAY dogs want to greet you, in the moment, can pose it's own problems with a kilt...

I thought Talisker was from the Isle of Mull, particularly from Tobemory. Are there two of them?
Scotland is only 1/5 the size of Montana, but Scotland has over 3,000 castles and Montana has none.
