Measurements question

Frank, be sure to measure and don't go by your pants size. I personally was shocked to see the difference. It would have been a big mistake to go by my pants size.

I recently asked Rocky at USA Kilts a similar question. The answer was that the waist measurement on their kilts is to the center hole of the strap which gives about 1 1/2 inches of leeway in either direction.

Cecil, I am aware of that, and will do exact measurements as the USA Kilts order form directs when the time comes, in about a month. The off-the-shelf kilt I bought did end up being a size 44, and was sufficiently loose as noted above in my reply to Holcombe. Right now I am a 42 waist but regress to 44 by winter's end, and have been doing that for many years. I'm hoping a custom kilt will absorb that difference.

If you're going to be ordering a CASUAL Kilt (with velcro) and fluctuate between a 42 and a 44 depending on season, I'd suggest getting a 43. That way, you'll be fine to go up a few inches or down a few inches.

Actually I'm looking at the semi-traditional one you sell Rocky. I'm thinking that's the best for all-around use, but then again, I wonder if the 5 yard wool would be better. I should be able to afford the semi-trad in a month, but would be a wee bit short for the 5 yard wool. I'd like to have a better looking kilt for the holidays, and plan on the extra 35 bucks for rush delivery no matter what I get. Then next summer or early fall maybe I'll be getting an 8 yard kilt.

a 43" waist would fit roughly up to 44.5 or down to 41.5.
