This is the pleating that Zoe ended up going with on her skirt this summer at Kilt Kamp. 3 different sets of stripes, Pink, White, Black, White, Pink. A bold choice!

It seems that one of the goals of the fashion industry is to cause controversy and discussion and generate a buzz. If this was the intention then I think they have accomplished their goal.
I think many guys would swap their utilikilt or casual kilt for it.

Too often, we confuse style with design exercise.
Style has a lasting quality, where as a design exercise might only ever be worn once - in the privacy of the designer's own home - with the lights out.

Please don't put words in my mouth. I did no hollering; in fact I've never hollered in my life and don't intend on starting anytime soon. And I did not use the words "horrible" or "WRONG" and nothing in my post was in all-caps. (Which could be considered "hollering" on a forum, yes?)
I did use the words "odd" "strange" and, yes, "bad". Sorry about that last, as "bad" is a value judgement, which isn't a good thing for me to do.
And I never said or tried to imply that anyone isn't free to do whatever they want. But I'm free to have an opinion.

Now Jock, are any of the kilts you wear or have ever worn pleated like any of my three examples?

The short answer is no. I have had only one kilt for the last 15/20 years, but in the past, I have had more than a few made and also family ones(all of the same Clan) that seemed to shrink with age and are now worn by my sons and nephews. In honest truth I have never looked at the pleats and their patterns that closely, it really does not concern me that much, I trust the kilt maker to do his best, whilst I get on with life. It is only since joining this website that I have really become aware of the details that some here agonise about and frankly I find it a tad tiresome. Still, each to their own.

I can quite understand if you are the customer who is spending a large amount of loot on a bespoke kilt, then these details are a rightfully expected priviledge for the customer to have what he wants, but come on chaps be a bit realistic!

With respect, we're on a kilt related forum. Obsessing over the details is to be expected, no? If not, this site would devolve into nothing but "here's a neat picture of a kilt" and "great pic" posts. Nothing wrong with those types of posts at all, but we need other topics and opinions to keep things interesting.
Also, in the "tartan Place" section, Figheadair posts his tartan of the month, where members pour over the most minute details of tartan scraps and make guesses / comments on it and no one (and rightfully so) comments on them obsessing over details. Sometimes, to some folks, the beauty is in the details and obsessing over them to see what we like / don't like is half the fun.

I do hear what you say Rocky and if that is what people want to talk about , then who am I to stop them, even if I wanted to-----and I don't. For me though, I have what I have because I have weeded out what I don't like and recycled what does not fit any more amongst my family and I am left with what I like and when I purchase something new that I know I want, the agonising bit is lost on me. So I suppose it is not surprising that I am astounded at the countless pages of detailed discussion on hose colour, shirts, sporrans, flashes, etc., etc., etc.. Perhaps I have been wearing the kilt too long, or just lived too long, I don't know, but even surrounded by 6 kilt wearing uncles, 1 kilt wearing father, 1 kilt wearing brother and two kilt wearing grand fathers I have never heard kilt attire details discussed in such minute detail as we do here. It is not wrong in any way that many do and I am not for one second suggesting it is, but it is not what I am used to. For sure, many of the threads cause me personally great amusement -----and occasionally some angst too----- and if I can help some one in some small way that gives me pleasure too and that is for good too, I hope. We each come to a website, any website, for our very own reasons, but for me, one of those reasons is not to discuss minute detail.

Of course you are free to have an opinion, and I didn't mean to suggest that you were hollering....just that some others were, sort of..
