So, you think you have thick skin, do you? Well brace yourself for this ....

As young and handsome as you look in any of those three pics, the guys are all going to be jealous, and the gals are going to be thinking thoughts like, "Wow! I'm really digging his kilt." You'll just have to take it from there.

That brutal assessment being proffered, I prefer either outfit 2 or 3. The Saltire looks fine. It's visually bold and most folks won't recognize it as a St. Andrews Cross or the Scottish flag. It's just one more reason for folks (ie gals) to ask you about what you're are wearing.

    Have a great time!
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

    To a bar, I would wear #2. If it's a sports-themed pub, I'd do #3.

    #2 and #3 are good,

Don't bother with the gillie laces - waste of time for no benefit,

If anyone questions the belt buckle, tell them - "I've got one on order, but it is going to take 6 weeks to get here from Scotland." Gives you plenty od time to sort out a buckle.

    Have fun - take pictures.

    Regards

    Chas

Another vote for #2 here but a suggestion to replace the sporran chain with a sporran belt. Its more informal and looks great on a casual outfit. Sporran belts are relatively cheap and even cheaper would be a womans narrow fashion belt that would do the job just as well as long as its the same colour as your kilt belt.

I don't find the saltire buckle too much (in context), but I bet you'll love the stag's head.

Another casual possibility can be found in the tool department of Sears or Home Depot:

This is a 3-inch work belt, peculiarly appropriate with the kilt; but basically anything 1.75" or wider will look OK.

Is the belt necessary to hold up your kilt? If not, you can lose it all together. I ordered my first kilt too large and I always needed a belt. Now, a bit wiser (for having participated in this forum), I order my kilts to fit correctly.

Also, where is the requisite pleat shot?

I think all three looks are fine. As I get older, (57 under my belt already), I am more and more shocked at the little children I see piloting motor vehicles around our streets. It is all relative and a product of aging, I suppose. But are you old enough to go to a bar? You look so young.

Congratulations on having your kilt and the motivation to take it out. Good for you! I wish I had found this site, owned a kilt and had the desire to do so when I was, perhaps, your age back in 1977. Have a great time and if you get photos please post them!

Ha Ha, this is something i get all the time. Im actually on the later part of 26 years old. Im lucky that my family has great genetics. My father is 58 and people at the bar constantly think he is in his late 30's. Cracks me up and gives them quite a shock. Im sure ill be getting carded for another 10 or so years but i dont take offense. Im looking into the Craftsman belt, sporran leather belt, and sporran suspenders as well. might get all three just for more options. Last off, ill get that pleat shot of my "USA Kilt" up on the site tonight. Thanks everyone again, all the support and suggestions really do help.

My fav is #2. Have a good time! Incidentally, from what part of WA state do you hail? I'm in the southwest corner.
