A fine observation, Tobus. There are many on this thread alone who dressed very differently just two or three years ago. They are now paying more attention to the old pics and to the words of those who have worn Highland dress all their lives. There seems to be less anger at tradition and less intent on changing what has been for something that can be nothing more than a trend. At the same time there is an understanding that small differences are reflections of personal style in a fashion form that is alive and well; that its acceptance beyond the Scottish Highlands -- in its traditional form -- has been good for it.
