Not much of a story, this was already common knowledge on the web for the past week or two.

VisitScotland’s spokeswoman said: “Tom has simply gone to another job.

“There is a large team working on the project and the working on Homecoming will continue as normal until a new director is appointed.”
So it will be business as usual in the planning of the 2014 events.

What do they mean by "chiefs" in the US and Canada? Aren't all of the chiefs title holders in the UK?
There are some bona fide hereditary Clan Chiefs or Heads of Family who are of Scottish descent but now resident in USA or Canada. The Scottish diaspora has travelled far and wide, not only the poor families who were displaced by the Highland Clearances but also the children of Clan Chiefs who have sought new fortune beyond Scotland. For example, of the two current contenders in the Court of the Lord Lyon who are seeking recognition as Chief of my Clan, one resides in England and the other in Spain. Also some North American clan societies have their own unofficial "chief".
