Today, in my 11th consecutive year of this annual tradition, I attended the Christmas Revels at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center's auditorium with my SO, Shannon (5th year for her). For general info, see http://californiarevels.org/ and to get a sense of various annual themes, see http://californiarevels.org/show_archive
I wanted to look "autumnal", while also looking smart but not TOO dressed up. Here I am across the street from the venue before the performance:

And on the ramp going up onto the stage from audience floor level:

EDIT: For those in the Bay Area, there are 7 performances remaining for this year: 2 tomorrow (Sunday), one next Friday evening, and 2 each on Saturday and Sunday -- and there are still tickets/seats available for all performances, so it's NOT too late for this wonderfully renewing experience.
I should add that it's interactive and partially (voluntarily) audience-participatory, as well as being a FANTASTIC thing for children.
Intermission is always signaled by a rendition of "The Lord Of The Dance", performed by a local Morris dance troupe; at the end, the chorus is repeated ad infinitum as performers snag willing participants out of the audience to join them onstage in a serpentine dance which ultimately winds out to the lobby where the refreshments and merchandise/souvenirs can be found. Yes, Shannon and I joined the dance.
I have to say that today marks the greatest number of compliments on the kilt I have EVER received in a single outing, from other attendees and cast members alike, both women and men.

Dale, I really like the butter-coloured shirt, especially with that kilt. You're looking sharp as ever.
Zardoz always seems to be taking photographs with... ...accessories that detract from his kilt, so it's very difficult to make a judgement there!
denmcdough, you're also looking quite sharp - I really like the look you have with the ABF tie. (Whatever happened to that thread, anyway?)
Ern, I commend you on wearing the kilt to work (even if tartan isn't allowed). Being the traditionalist that I am, I particularly like your last picture - looking good!

Looking ver sharp there Dale. I'm normally not a big fan of sweater vests, but this time it really works well.

Great bunch of photos in the thread but the combination of the Maple Leaf tartan and that sporran is great. My New Year's resolution is to get a Maple Leaf tartan kilt in 2013 hehe.

You know at first I wasn't fond of the Maple Leaf tartan but the more I see it the more I like it and as a Canadian I really should have one. At least that's the argument I'm going to start with for SWMBO
I'm just trying to be the person my dog thinks I am.

If you guys are looking for the Maple Leaf tartan in the photo, please make sure your kiltmaker gets it from BATLEYS (mill). They're the one who have this particular color 'scheme' for the Maple Leaf. The same tartan from Lochcarron and HOE is much darker.

Rocky: Does BATLEYS (mill) have a web presence? I found a town in west Yorkshire and some shops in Edinburgh, but no woolen mill. I note that on your kilt ordering pages it is referred to as "NBat".

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Quite right. Mine is Batley 16-oz fabric, and made by USAK. It's really become my go-to "autumn kilt"!
