Very smart there!
Hard to beat charcoal tweed Argylls, isn't it? They look great with pretty much any tartan, and for pretty much any event.
What I especially like is how the grey functions to tone down the kilt. I'm not a fan of Buchanan Modern (I much prefer the old sett done up in old colours) and your outfit there is a perfect example of how a bright tartan can be softened by wearing it with grey. (The softening effect is strongest with mid-grey.)

I've already decided that my next 8yrd Traditional is also going to be a Buchanan, but in DC Dalgleish's Reproduction colors, specifically for it's toned-down appearance for evening wear especially. But I agree with you, that the Argyll seemed to soften the appearance of the modern colors quite a bit!
