Brimmed hats?

I am looking at the possibility of wearing an outback slouch or similar for good coverage and an oilskin leather or canvas would have a nice look on top of it. My opinion but, with a good outdoor button down shirt and boots. A nice outdoor look indeed.

I have several brimmed hats that I wear with a kilt. The panama is my favorite summertime wear. For cool weather, I like a tweed deerstalker or a fedora.

I wear my Tilley in the hot intense summer sun. Maybe not traditional, but it does wonders for the sun. My mother has had a few spots removed, and working outdoors as a surveyor I've some to appriciate the functionality of a nice brimmed hat.

Living in Arizona the last 40 years wide brim hats are a big thing with me. I own two Tilley hats that I often wear with my kilts. Last spring I found this really really wide brim hat that I wear hiking when kilted.

Found it in a store in Tubac, AZ. Label in the hat says Sun Body Hats Houston, Texas www.sunbody.com Handcrafted of palm leaves in Guatemala. And the hat maker/weaver signed the label.

I like how the back of the brim turns down for more neck protection. Pic is on the Colorado River a bit north of Moab, Utah.

I usually dress for the weather. Depending on the weather I wear my Tilley T3, Statesman, straw cowboy, fedora, Tilley Ivy or tam.

Tilley now sells wool fedoras & ivy caps. I wanted a fedora, but they didnt have one in my size so I chose an Ivy.

Is there a wide brimmed hat that would be acceptable to wear while kilted?

My advice would be to wear whatever type of hat you would normally wear, irrespective of what else you are wearing - kilt or those other things. There are no rules beyond what is currently in fashion if you are a close follower of trends.
If, however, you are trying to appear as though you are a Scottish person, temporarily re-located to Colorado, then I can't really help you beyond saying what is usual hereabouts. The usual headgear here at the moment (winter) is a close-fitting woollen hat that keeps your ears warm although I am usually to be seen in a flat cap except when fishing when I wear a deerstalker. I did wear a Balmoral once but the sympathetic looks I received persuaded me against persisting with it. Hat-wearing is not so popular nowadays as it was 30-40 years ago and, lacking your ferocious sunshine, not such an imperative here.

A Donegal tweed Irish walking hat is my choice. I wear it everywhere.

It's not unusual here in Texas to see a cowboy hat worn with a kilt.
