A splendid photo indeed! Roger piping at the annual Bratach Gorm (SPSL) competition in London. A very smart tartan in a very smart colour scheme and his overall earthy/weathered attire (fawn Balmoral, Haggart's tweed, brown leather sporran with brass cantle, green Lewis hose, brown brogues, etc) is just superb. Roger's bag cover even tones well with his attire.
Here's another taken the same day with piping judge and professional piper, Willie McCallum:

Bren, Yes, unfortunately the Stewart tartans are considered universal. I say unfortunately because I am a member of that clan and would really like to have a tartan that is not a universal one.

I can understand why that would be a bit disappointing. As a Shaw Clan member I can say that I would just be thrilled to see our tartan being worn...but the trade-off is that is is an expensive tartan. At least Stewart tartans are easily-obtainable.

The competition is not the Bratch Gorm it is the annual memebers competition held at the HQ of the London Scottish in Horseferry Rd London. If it was the Bratach Willie would have been playing. the memeber comp is held in about May each year but the Bratach is in November. The SPSL tartan was designed by The House oF Labhran for the SPSL on a special weave. Currently all sold out.
