Its a lot of "Red" but thats more a Formal Suit. In German I would say it's a "Sonntag Anzug". Not for hunting or the normal day. More for Gatherings and "Good-looking Events" The Gun is a Doglock Musket.

Jock, Callum's excellent outfit is that of entirely "upper crust" clan gentleman, a fellow at the top of the economic ladder and part of the "warrior elite." These fellows comprised a small percentage of the clan's fighting force. The mass of clansmen would not look nearly as fine (and nobody would after a few weeks in the field!)....

That was what I was wondering and why I asked the question. Thank you for confirming my thoughts.

Yes indeed. Here's a notional view of Charles Edward Stuart surrounded by (mostly) gentry, at the raising of his standard at Glenfinnan to kick off that whole '45 thing:
One might quibble with the artist about the occasional beard in the painting, as my understanding is that at this time period the norm was for men to be clean-shaven; but it looks pretty good otherwise.

Sorry to see you go, WS....your historical kit and your insight was the main reason I joined this site; now, it won't be quite the same.

That is a shame Brian.

Brian, I wish you wouldn't do that.

The problem is the rules, in particular Rule 11 - which seems to be quite clear on the subject of weapons. In fact there was a re write a little while ago now to try to make it as plain and straightforward as possible. I thought it was successful, but it seems not.
The moderators work to ensure that the rules are abided by, and we do try to maintain an even balance, calming down the over enthusiastic reporters and attempting to keep the forum on track with the least possible interference - but there are always the rules and they are implacable.
Except for something really outstanding, we don't do deletion of membership - the door is always on the latch. After some considerable time of no signing in the membership becomes dormant just as a matter of housekeeping, but an email will restore it again.
I could possibly mention the rule about cross dressing - except Brian would probably not get that he was having his chain yanked.

It does seem a shame that in a forum/thread/discussion of Jacobite re-enactment garb, one cannot discuss the appropriate weapons. I do not, have not, and never will own a gun. I think there is no place for them, and frankly no need, in civilized society except for hunting/shooting/stalking, which I do not do. Still, I understand their place in a proper discussion of history. BOO.
