I'm quite familiar with the tradition of Perth gentlemen wearing white tie, but I wore a white tie because I had forgotten to launder a jabot! I could have worn a black tie, as that qualifies for Highland white tie dress, but I just felt like being contrary! The ball's dress code requests white tie first, black tie second. The crowd this year was maybe 60% white, 40% black tie.
