Keeping in mind that colors in the jacket do not need to remotely "match" anything in any of your kilts, charcoal does indeed work for anything. My own choice was a Harris tweed fabric that, depending on the lighting conditions, could be taken for charcoal or a much lighter bluish-grey, but (as is common with Harris tweed) has flecks of a lot of other colors in it as well.
