If you have other kilts you'd like to wear a pair of dress hose with, red and white or red and black hose would be the more economical solution.

Sailortats is right that the tartan hose are a bit more understated, but if the bride is "going big" that's not really an issue

As for the shoes, they're okay, but if it's a formal (evening) do you might want something without the monk strap- which is a bit more casual than laces.

or if you did want a touch of brogueing, perhaps the below

Simple and shiny is the way to go (unless you want to go all out and get buckle brogues / mary janes for evening dress).

Hey Artificer, thanks for the detailed reply.

I think the bride will be "very big" and so will be the groom. Not kilted but in morning suit and top hat.
It will be a wedding in Bavaria with about 200 guests, two orchestras, a choir singing, a big band for the party and so on...so I will just be a bit of colour.

Yes, I guess the diced hose would be a little more in use but I also like the argylls very much, so...

I do have some formal lace-ups, also in patent leather but it will be a morning wedding so I wanted to be a little less formal.
I could change for evening. A real formal dress kilt shoe maybe would be too much I guess, though I'll need some one day...

    Thanks, Tom

Be carefull, it is very easy to turn Kilt day "dress" (morning suit equivalent)attire into a costume. Diced, or argyll hose are not necessarilly required, nor are shoes any fancier than well polished black lace up shoes, or if you really insist, a pair of ghillie brogues.

    Just saying.

    Thanks Jock Scot,

as I read dress kilt hose are an essential part of morning dress highland attire (Tartans and Highland Dress by MacKinnon f.g.). He also recommends buckle dress shoes for morning dress which I find a bit too much but I am not a big friend of ghillie brogue because they are too folkloristic to me so the brogued monks seemed to be a more moderate alternative...but that is, as we often read, a question of personal preference...
What kind of hose would you wear for such an occasion?

If you like the argyle hose, then there ya have it. Althoufh, I would go with a plain and simple black shoe and put a nice shine on them.

Given your choice of two, I'd be inclined to go with he tartan, a little more subdued for the formal occasion. Though personally, I'd probably go with plain hose, maybe a subdued Lovatt green? Or Black with the black shoes? Whatever you feel more comfortable with.
    Regards, Sav.
