It the retailer on line? I've been in the market for some new hose and would like to know where you can get HOC hose at a better price if possible.

I believe the Katrine hose were made and marketed as ladies' socks. Not that that means a man can't wear them; I sell men's socks to women all the time. But you'll have to take into account the size difference, and you may find the color selection a bit more feminine in character.

But as for quality, you'll find it the same as you have come to expect from House of Cheviot hose. These are made from the same merino wool blend as the majority of their hose, and I believe are 3 ply, which is what the Rannoch, Lewis, and most of their other kilt hose and country socks are.

Here is a whole listing of retailers who carry House of Cheviot in the USA, including a few forum advertisers.

The hose in the photo are Rannoch hose. I believe the web site has them misidentified. Or they just chose to call them something else. I noticed on their web site they are calling the Lewis hose "Awe hose." I did not see a listing on their site for Katrine hose, but they do have a listing for Rannoch, which they say is being updated.

In any case, the hose in the photograph you posted are the Rannoch style, in St. Andrews Blue color if the color in the photo is true.

Thank you Matt, I would be more than happy if they are Rannoch and for £24.00 including postage I certainly shall not complain. It does seem odd that they have mis-identified them as they do seem to stock the Rannoch line as well... in any case I shall see what I get; it is starting to feel a little like a lucky dip!

Matt, can you confirm if the Awe hose marketed by Ferris Islay Rose are indeed the same as the Lewis Hose and likewise manufactured by HOC. ?

Well the hose arrived today which you can't really argue with as damn good service; I ordered them yesterday.

This is the pair I received:

They do appear to be generally the same as the Rannoch line. There are however a couple of small differences the main one being that there is a break in the cuff pattern to both sides of the hose one of which is shown here:

The Rannoch pattern, on the pair I have at least, is unbroken all the way round the cuff.

The other difference is that the length of hose appears shorter but the cuff is about twice as long as the Rannoch cuff only half of which is patterned so one is compelled to use the "z" fold technique so that the pattern is correct. The net result of this is that it makes it easier to adjust the length for a variety of leg lengths but with the downside that the whole cuff is very slightly more bulky and, I suspect, the manufacture is more expensive.
