Major Downsizing of kilt
Hello All,
I am a competitive piper and have a gorgeous kilt made from a rare tartan. The kilt is fabulous except that I have lost about 45 pounds since it was custom made for me. It was a very expensive and hard to find tartan so I'm wondering if it can be remade to fit me again and still look as well made as it does now. I know that the extra material from the pleats was removed.
Any advice would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the "Great Rabble!"
Any good kiltmaker can do that for you, but it's not cheap. Having said that, your description of the kilt makes it sound extremely worth the price. Try contacting any of the kiltmakers here at the forum. They all get rave reviews.
Congratulations on the weight loss!

Congratulations on the weight loss, I'm sure you'll find someone who can help here.
Of course, we all want to see the kilt, and check out the rare tartan, don't leave us hanging.

Congrats on the weight loss, and that link to Barb's threads was educational, and it means you can keep you kilt. Which is great.

Hello Molly, and welcome to X Marks from Delaware. Congratulations; 45 pounds is a lot of weight to loose but, I bet you feel a lot better and you probably look better too. A custom made kilt in a rare tartan is certainly worth altering (rebuilding) and there are a number of members on this site who will give you guidance.
What is your "rare tartan" and can you share a picture of it?
Anyway, glad you joined the rabble.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. Well done with the weight - or lack of it. Having had a kilt of great sentimental value altered (for 4 inches loss, not weight loss) my only recommendation to you is to get a very skilled kiltmaker to rebuild your treasured kilt for you. Mine (in Australia, so rather less than useful to you!) did an excellent job. You've certainly come to the right place to find one.
Regards, Sav.

From Illinois
I too have lost a lot of weight in a year and I found that adjusting my kilts by a few inches was fairly quick and easy. No major rebuild was necessary. However, depending on how much you need to alter it, you might want to contact a kiltmaker.

If you want to PM me with your old measurements and your current measurements, I'd be happy to offer advice on whether just moving the buckles will work.
