Just a couple of pics as promised of the triskelle design I'm working on.
I've come up with a way to cast these and then decide how to affix them later.

Started with autocad as it's easier to get 120 degree rotated arrays with:

Then I threw it into illustrator CS5 to give it a bit more detail:

I also located some smaller broach pins today, that look a little more friendly on sashes, so I might make a few smaller copies of this.

Is there an ideal weight for a kilt pin - or is it a "whatever does the job" kind of thing?

Dranoweb, I use a couple of those giant safety pins or blanket pins as they are commonly known, as kilt pins but with some modification. I use my old uniform buttons stuck on with expoy.
    A couple of them

After a couple of edits to this post I realise i'm in the correct thread after all.
too many hours behind the mouse - anyway observe below - 5 hours of clicking and swearing at Illustrator for hiding toolbars on me.

Just wanted to say that I really admire your creativity. These are lovely ideas.

Yes those would be the pins I was referring to.

I had to work the tip though - they looked right out of china with their workmanship.

Thankyou - I'm also putting alot of detail and effort into these as I'd like to demonstrate what my fiance means to me.
the both of us have come a very very long way to get to this point.

I'm always willing to share ideas and graphics etc.

The crane broach is a representation of a Druid deity as chosen by my Fiance to represent her heritage in that area.

Some specifics for the curious regarding the double crane symbolisim:

    The deity represented is: Aife
    Other Names: Aoife.
    Location: Ireland, Scotland.
    Description:
Goddess and queen of the Isle of Shadow. She ran a school for warriors, but her school was less successful than her sister, Scathach's, school. Aife was not vulnerable to magick, and commanded a legion of fierce horsewomen. She stole an alphabet of knowledge from the deities to give to humankind. For that infraction, she was transformed into a crane by the elder deities. Supposedly, she was accidently killed by hunters but yet others say she still haunts the countryside in this form today. She is associated with the three fold law and the crane. Rules Over: Protection, general knowledge, teaching, pathworking, lessons of the threefold law.
