Thanks Jock for your always appreciated statement but may I contradict?!
Diced hose are an accepted part of civillian evening kilt wear for long time although they are of military origin. So a pipe band isn't necessarily to be around when wearing them.
Following several sources dress kilt hose are a required and essential part of evening wear and also - we had this before - of day dress (equivalent to morning coat and striped trousers) even if you wear an Argyll instead of a PC or doublet.
I have to confess that I don't find the garter ties ideal but they seem more appropriate with a dress hose to me then usual flashes exerpt of silk...They are too thick under the turndown.
But it was a first tryon to see how things work together...
AND: It is very often said that keeping Highland Dress too simple is not traditional!!!
Through kilt hire companies that try to work as economic as possible we are used to see a lot of boring stuff which makes kilt attire quite uniformal and uninteresting.
Of course I don't have your kiltwearing experiences but I think even if things run out of fashion it is still appropriate do so.
And as we know there is no proper way of discussing personal taste...
