Comments welcomed regarding travelling in pants vs. kilt
So I'm all set for flying to Ireland in 11 days!
We have a 90 minute flight, then a 1 hour layover then a 7 hour flight (then a few hours of driving).
Now don't get me wrong -- I love travelling in a kilt. It's very comfy and the ladies love it. I get so much attention that my wife eventually just has to go with the flow and enjoy it.
But ... would I be better off just wearing a nice pair of pants? ...
1) I wouldn't be sitting on pleats for 10 hours or so.
2) Easier to use a fly in those tiny lavatories, than to managage all that fabric.
3) I sometimes think pants have an advantage in that one does not have to sit with one's legs together. Legs-together is hot.
4) My nice pants have lots of pockets.
5) Since the flight is 7pm to 7am, I figure we'll need to get a night's sleep -- I expect that would be easier and more modest in pants.
Of course, I am leaning toward having none of the above matter -- and choosing the fantastic style that comes with wearing a kilt.
Your thoughts .... ?

For the reasons that you have mentioned, a kilt is probably not your most practical choice for a lengthy international flight... That said, I would still wear one! Think of how great you'll feel entering and exiting the plane, as well as while strutting through both airports. Well worth sitting on pleats for a few hours.

Sorry me ol mate, you must feel like you've just logged on to a Jewish website and asked if it's OK to eat pork (no disrespect to my jewish friends)
I cannot speak from experience, having never flown in a kilt, but next time I fly there is no way I will wear trousers or even shorts.
Sitting even in a car in shorts is the most uncomfortable experience.
I would fly in a poly-vis kilt, the pleats survive sitting just fine.
On a long flight it's good to get up often and do some stretching, this will shake the pleats a bit. Anyway, who cares about a crease or two, you'll still look fantastic kilted.

Don't do the trouser mistake... You'll wish you hadn't, an hour into the first flight. Besides, when you're asleep, you'll have a blanket over ya anyway.

I don't worry about my legs being open. The apron drops down in front and covers everything (more coverage than short, btw). I'll let the ladies worry about such symbolic modesties.
I've flown kilted and prefer it to wearing pants having done both recently. In fact I've lost weight so that I can wear a kilt more comfortably on a plane.

You know what!... I'm going to rock the apple cart a bit here and suggest that you do what you're most comfortable with. Are you wearing a kilt to (a) make point and entertain people, or (b) just get to your destination inconspicuously and with all your luggage intact. Do you want (a) an adventure or (b) just a trip. If your answer is (a) and (a), then Have a blast, man!! If your answer is (b) and (b), then "Safe journey". The option is yours.
cheers,
blu
