The wife and I had a dressier function to attend to today....I did add the tie before we left. The hose I got from Rocky and are AMAZINGLY comfortable.....Keep in mind...I usually only wear this kilt for better functions to begin with...but because it was during the day, I felt the need to dress it down with the jacket and vest, but really wanted to try the hose on for the first time. Def on the more upscale events for sure in the future....the only one that I may wear for more day wear...(and this is because its not a bold tartan in my mind) in my Scruffy Wallace and the matching Argyles I have for that.....which IMHO would go better with the jacket that I chose in this pic. Thank you all for your input, I does all get serious attention from me, and I do think hard before I try something new out. Namely.....how much $$$$ I spent on the outfit.

I'm surely no expert, but I tend to agree with Jock. The only time I ever wore my argyle hose for daywear was for a wedding. Not formally attired, just daywear.
Fact is, they cost too much to wear out for daily use, and besides, I prefer plain hose for casual wear.
But then, the older I get, the less I know.

Very smart Thescot. It was a dressier thing today....and Like I said.....The scruffy wallace....I had the funds to set aside for a day wear sett...the ones in the pic above....ONLY will be for more dressy functions from now on. That being said........I'm not going to wear my Scruffy day in day out. maybe once or twice a month with the argyle's

Being a part-time kilt wearer, I find that any time I have one on, it is a pretty special occasion- church & funerals, mostly, and certainly not all of either. Like Colin, I acquired my argyle hose from a previous wearer and can treat them with the disdain I could never muster for footwear that costs more than a hundred dollars. As for over egging the cake and/or gilding the lily, I can only say,
sometimes too much ain't enough.
If I were to become incensed over some sartorial disagreement, or even offended, my prayer this sabbath is that it will be over something bigger than argyle hose. Like, I don't know, how many buttons are on some other gentleman's waistcoat or something of similar actual import. Or maybe one of those scrunchy things people wear where their ties belong...

Kilted Cole: I think your outfit looks smashing! Congratulations. I like the Argyle hose with your kilt. I prefer garters to flashes, too.
I also like the way your kit effectively and pleasantly combines matchy-matchy with contrasting. There's matching in the upper half and in the lower half, but they contrast with each other. Good show! I'll have to try that myself sometime.

Fair enough....but Like ALL have said....it comes down to personal taste, and are you willing to shell out a specific sum of coinage? I love reading everyones views regarding highland attire.

MacLowlife has a good point there. It's all fine and good to temper one's Highland dress with sartorial restraint, but there are times when one needs to just "give'r."
For example, if one were to be at an event with THCD heavyweights like Sir Malcolm MacGregor, one would need a lot more than just a pair of muted Argyle hose to get noticed

Here is a link to a group photo where he's wearing the same outfit. Notice how he much he stands out?

Of course the original question was about daywear, not the evening attire that the MacGregor chief is wearing. To reiterate, Argyle (or tartan, or diced) hose are generally very rare except in formal evening wear... except, according to Google image search, if one were going to a gathering of Xmarkers. Then too much might not be enough
