Greeting from Silicon Valley (Santa Clara, California)
Hello,
Thought I would introduce myself as a recent newbie. (actually approved just this morning 10/11/13). I am James Buchanan and yes, a kilt wearer although I need to find more reasons to wear it more regularly. Currently, the owner of a Buchanan Modern I bought last year and a new Lion Heart that I purchased in Edinburgh last month. I am interested in obtaining an Ancient Buchanan, after seeing some of the great pictures posted on here. Although a California native, my father is originally from North Carolina where the family has been since the 17th century (as best I can tell.) I have attached a picture of the Buchanan modern with fly plaid and Prince Charlie jacket that I wore while walking my daughter down the aisle last year.
Glad to part of a great site.

Hi James and welcome from sunny Queensland!
Looking great, your daughter must have been as proud of you as you of her, congratulations.
I worked 18 years with one of the founding firms in the Valley, Amdahl in Sunnyvale (on East Arques) and further down the road on Scott in Santa Clara, though I was remote in Birmingham, UK, visiting head office about five times a year. I don't even regret the many hours in the "tin budgie"! Great people and many happy memories!
Recent visitors tell me most of the Valley I remember is gone now, even my favourite hotel, the Hilton Inn on Lakeside. I hope Hoss, the barman found a new home.
Regards, Sav.

Hello, James! Welcome to X Marks from way over here in Delaware. You're looking good in the picture (and, of course, so does your daughter).
There are a lot of great pictures and posts on this sight (truely inspiring) but, best of all, there are a lot of great people here. I'm glad you chose to become part of the kilted rabble.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. Welcome James. If you are looking for an excuse to wear your kilt, come on down to Ventura this weekend for the Seaside Highland Games.

I remember Amdahl. I retired after 30 years in law enforcement. Amdahl and several other major high tech headquarters were located in our North side. Yes, the Hilton is long gone. Just a big vacant lot remains. A lot has changes in the 55 years I have lived in what used to be called at one time, "The valley of hearts delight." Now it is more of a shopping mall and asphalt jungle.
