Well, that's a very parliamentarian thing to say, John. Nothing has been learned much over the centuries and most legislators, even at this late date, are either stuffed or being told to go and get.
Actually, the Mound never was lost and neither was its purpose. The whole town is named for it. The news item really is just local news about a dig in the middle; sort of a pick-up on the discovery of Richard Three's remains, also under a parking lot.

So what you are bringing out Rex is:
Just one more thing about storing your things. If this hill was known as a thing hill, and it was known that a thing was under the thing hill, but no one really cared about the thing under the thing hill until somebody came along and wanted to put a parking lot on it.... then....Universal Guy Law would say that under hills is not a good place to store your things. Unless of course you want some guy coming along and digging all your things up.
I personally don't like keeping my things under hills or Parking lots for just this reason.

And yet another thing about storing your things, is that even though you may wish to store your things under a hill and let everyone know that it is now a thing hill.
And even if you are a king.
Some parking lot guy will come along and dig up your things.
This leads us to conclude that parking lot guys may be on the same level as any other con man.

Dead on, Steve. A lot better to have your thing exposed for all to see than have it buried under a layer of tar. No-thing should have to suffer that. The thing is archaeologists often suspect things are buried under other things but have to dig down to make sure. In this case they knew the thing was there and are maybe just giving it air.
Not meaning to be political , only humorous .... but sometimes it might be a good " Thing " if a Parliament or a Congress is covered over by a parking lot .
