Yeah it is what seams to be a larger box pleat that is on the under appron that falls between ones legs and adds some privacy

Ah, so it is a 'sitting down' thing... The pleat looks deep enough that it could be annoying while walking, though. I would like to see one of these kilts in person.

    special flap

Maybe this flap will be like liberty cuffs used by some of us in US navy.

Well, I found my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE part of the site!

I'll quote from the page that talks about their pleating:

The Kaber Kilt™ is not a Scottish kilt, at least not in the modern sense. Designed by a contemporary Viking, patterned after several different ethnic kilts, and made with the modern man in mind. 8 box pleats with a detachable front apron. The basic, Orsman™ model is made from a canvas/denim twill to be durable, easy to care for, and inexpensive. Reinforced pockets, snap closure and an inside "dignity pleat™" to keep your secrets to yourself.

Our design is with the lawyers and the Patent & Trademark office. Please don't try to copy us. We can and will sue your %#&!

Guess they haven't seen some of the "Specialty Kilts" that have been made?

    Just wondering.

Would anyone have the "brass" to get a Great Kilt?

There's GOT to be an SCA guy out there, or a "Renny", or a die-hard!

Very interesting question, Jimmy. You know, I have considered a great kilt. It would be very cool to have one, but I am not sure how often it would be used and I don't like having things simply for the sake of having them. The problem that I have is that regardless of whether I am dressed casual or traditional, I shoot for a more modern kilted look, and I am unsure how to acheive this with the great kilt. In a way it would be like wearing a bear skin around; simply no way to make that transcend the costume effect- at least not that I can see.

If I can get it to look right without having to wear period footwear, I am willing to bet that I do end up with one sooner or later.

Now that Orsman looks like the perfect starter kilt to me. Plus, there's Norwegian influence. Sort of melda my British Isles and Norse hertiage together. Awesome.

A great kilt is the last on my list, for now. I think it would have limited wear.

However, I thought the same about a TANK.

Yes, I have a Great Kilt! It's not exactly wear-on-the-go because you have to lay out 8+ yards of tartan and pleat the thing by hand ! Quite a big job. I also find it just too hot for summer wear here in the midwest. Great for fall and winter, tho.
