It's a term of endearment. She's my best friend and she loves me in a kilt.

Me, too. But my salvation has been being born into a military family. Everyone in the world has been either "sir" or "ma'am" my whole life. Everyone else's first word was "mama"; mine was probably "ma'am".
It's not fool-proof but it has been a helpful crutch for a wobbly memory.

Very. It's a distinction she carries proudly.

Perhaps it's in the genes. I too cannot remember someone's name until I have known them for a very long time. It drives me crazy and makes me look like I just don't care. It's particularly frustrating given that I can remember the most useless other things that have no bearing on my life after hearing them only once... so bizarre.

Something to be said for wearing the kilt....
Exactly why I started wearing my kilt to business conferences and trade shows. I, too, have a problem remembering all the names of people I've met but my excuse is that there are lots of them and only one of me!

The other day at the humane society where I volunteer (read as my unpaid, full-time job), I was showing an older couple some of the dogs we had waiting for a home. After a while, the lady asked if I had been the young man at our fund raising dinner (back in June), who wore a kilt. After admitting that I was that gent, she mentioned that it was a pity that I could not wear it in our shelter (the usual attire is nursing scrubs).

For all ya'll that wear a kilt every day, did your wife or significant other like the idea right away or did it take some time for them to warm to the idea?
I got my kilts a few months ago and my wife HATES, HATES, HATES them! She hate the whole idea of me wearing one. She always asks, "Where are you going to wear that thing?" I tell her, "Anywhere I please, but I will stop wearing it when somebody talks crap about it to my face." The last is not likely to happen as I am on the particularly large and muscular size. My father waited until the last years of his life to buy one and I believe he only got to wear it at one Scottish Festival in Tucson. I don't want that to be my case. Any ideas how to get past her animosity? I remember seeing a thread here before, but can't find it.

It was my wife's idea I wear a kilt to more than just games. If she had her way, I'd wear one all the time.
Yours will come around, it just may take some time. Standing out when you go someplace, takes a little getting used to.
