    My Intentions Here

Hi, many of you read my post about what I should get for my sweet piper of mine for Christmas, and all of you had good words to say to me. I thought that I would still more formally introduce myself.

My name is Emily, but you can call me Efenn. I'm actually just 18, and am currently a freshmen in college. I don't have any Scottish ancestry or any relatives involved in the culture (that I know of), but have gained an interest over the past two years because of my boyfriend's interest. My boyfriend is a piper, he also plays the tinwhistle (which I think may also be a Scottish instrument), among other things.

I guess that's really the only reason I got involved, but I must say I was so touched by the kind words of the members here that I have decided that I will try to be an avid member. I would like to express my intentions on being here...

The main reason I will be here is for questions, really. Not knowing much I don't see how else I could make any good thread posts, haha. I would like to learn more about Scottish culture.

I probably won't comment all that much unless pure opinions are accepted here (some forums have overall pretty negative communities!) because I don't know enough about Scottish tradition yet to make any educated responses.

I think that I will try to take up the pipes. I don't know how fond many of you feel of lady pipers, but my boyfriend has encouraged me and maybe it's time to get that practice chanter and start learning the basics. Hopefully, learning won't be too hard for me. I already play the clarinet pretty well, and have marched for several years in marching band.

That's about it regarding Scottish information I guess, haha... Time for some more personal information about me.

I'm overall a pretty friendly person, unless provoked... then I'm not so friendly.

I love nature and especially the woods and exploring new forests. I currently have four dogs and I love to take them with me when I go; they're my best friends. I was born and raised in a small town and my house is located deep in the woods, so it's just second nature to me.

I support the legalization of marijuana...and am the very occasional smoker...Here's hoping this doesn't blacklist me. I have not, however, ever drunk alcohol or smoked anything else... or done anything else similar.

I enjoy taking pictures, too, but sadly I am currently cameraless. Once I get a new camera eventually I might get to start getting photos of my piper in action for those who are interested.

and I am currently in a christmas gift and final exam scramble.

    and that's about it.

Welcome to the XMTS Community Efenn. It appears you have a appreciation of those wearing Kilts, starting with your boyfriend, the piper. If we may inquire, what part on the country are you from, as there are many local and regional events across this continent.....

    Efenn,
In my three short years here I have found that this place is full of endless learning about kilts and Scottish history and culture. You'll enjoy it here.

Welcome Efenn. The rabble will certainly benefit with some youthful leavening added to the mix. What is your major and what are your hopes for a career?

Again, welcome to the "Great Rabble!"

You'll find a number of lady pipers here, and pure opinion is generally welcome. Every once in a while somebody gets their snoot out of joint, but generally not and we try to stay polite. If it goes too far, the moderators will deal with it gently and usually in the background, so do share your opinions and your tastes. Take a look at the few forum rules that we have, and park your politics and religion outside as far as partisanism goes.

You'll do fine here. May you have many happy discussions!
