    Thinking of a waistcoat

In the new year Im hoping to purchase a waistcoat to go with my wool kilts.

These are the wool kilts I have. I have a jacket/waistcoat in charcoal.
Which colors I should be looking at?

I think a red waistcoat would be smashing.

If I may, I would go one step further and say Brick Red or a Mustard Yellow.

Seems a good combo for this gentlmen, though it may be to much red for most. I've seen other examples of the red but wanted to find one with a grey coat. It looks much better to my eye with darker tartan

A red waistcoat looks good under a jacket. Without a jacket, one risks looking like a valet.

That's why I would probably opt more toward a burgundy. It would also look outstanding with the gray jacket.

I agree that a red waistcoat would go well with any of your tartans. But, do I really look like a valet in this pic Tobus?

I would only think the "valet" problem would arise if you were wearing dress slacks. I haven't run into many kilted valets.
I would like to recast my vote for mustard, less pop and less common, it seems.

I have to agree here. Though I have one red raggwool sweater the reds dont do well with me. I get by with the German Heritage tartan as well. My preference for classy color that can be used in many ways is also burgundy. Just a bit more subdued for my taste but that is just me. If the red works for you go for it.

Here is a little number I made from wine/burgundy worsted wool and an 1860's vest pattern.

I don't think there is any danger of random strangers handing you the keys to their vehicles, no.
